A bonding scan gives the expectant parents the opportunity to see what their baby looks like before it is born. The technology used involves harmless sound waves, which are sent through the tummy by a special device (a transducer). The computer then converts the reflected sound waves into images which can be seen straightaway on a monitor. The sharpness of the image will depend on the length of the pregnancy, the posture of the mother, and the position of the baby. Here you can see some examples of the various types of bonding scans.
